Denver's Lower Highland neighborhood — LoHi — has become one of the most compelling pockets of contemporary architecture in Colorado. It's a place where historic bungalows share blocks with bold, modern builds, and where design-forward clients demand materials that can hold up to that vision. The LoHi Studio Loft, designed by Tomecek Studio Architecture, is exactly that kind of project — and it recently earned a spot on America By Design, the national television program that celebrates outstanding architecture, design, and the craftspeople behind it.

Mountain View Window & Door is proud to have played a role in bringing this project to life.

Hear It From the Architect

Brad Tomecek, principal at Tomecek Studio Architecture, shot a client showcase video on-site at the LoHi Studio Loft. In his own words:

"Working with Brett at Mountain View Window and Door, we see them as a trusted advisor, not just a vendor. They're super collaborative. They will tackle any project that we have."

— Brad Tomecek, Tomecek Studio Architecture

The Right Products for an Urban Statement

The LoHi Studio Loft presented a specific set of design challenges. The building sits directly on an urban street front, requiring a front entry that could make a bold architectural statement while also delivering serious security. At the same time, the tight urban context demanded maximum light and openness — without sacrificing thermal performance in Colorado's unpredictable climate.

The solution: Weather Shield VUE Series windows and doors. Brad describes the product choice clearly:

"This is the VUE Series. What it is, is it allows us for a very thin frame and allows for maximum opening."

— Brad Tomecek, Tomecek Studio Architecture

The thin-profile framing of the VUE Series keeps sight lines clean and glass expansive — exactly what a modern urban build like this demands. Above the main entry, a slot window carries that same minimal aesthetic while flooding the interior with natural light.

A Door Built for Urban Living

One of the standout features of the project is the front door itself. The tall lower level of the loft required a door with significant height — a specification that most standard door products can't accommodate cleanly. The Weather Shield VUE Series handled it with ease, and the five-point locking system added a level of security that's essential for a street-front entry in a dense urban neighborhood.

Brad explains the five-point system: "When you close it, you actually pull it up and it pins in and locks." That tactile, intentional quality is the difference between a door that feels like a product and one that feels like a piece of architecture.

What It Means to Work with a Trusted Advisor

The architect-to-supplier relationship is often transactional. Brad's experience with Mountain View was different:

"Mountain View Window and Door understands working with architects, specs, lead times, project coordination — which is imperative to having a successful project."

— Brad Tomecek, Tomecek Studio Architecture

That's the standard we hold ourselves to on every project — from concept through installation. Architects bring the vision. We bring the products, the expertise, and the coordination to make sure the window and door package never becomes the bottleneck.
